The details are provided in this newsletter.   I hope to see many of you on February 19 for our monthly luncheon to hear software industry veteran and local entrepreneur Mark Moeller of Qualnetics Corporation talk about opportunities in Mobile Applications Software.  I also encourage you to read about our exciting new Social Media Rockstar contest as part of the Social Media Conference on March 25. If you have not yet registered for the conference hurry and register for best selection in break-out sessions! Seating is limited in some sessions and is first-come, first-serve. Don't miss out on the Early Bird Rate and TAG member discount.

A quick update from TAG Board Director Mark Knittel:    It's been 6 weeks since we sent out the email request requesting support for the Sehome High FIRST Robotics competition for 2010. The team has been assembled and work on the project is moving forward, but there's still a need for help with funding, and plenty of opportunity to help the team out as an advisor. Here's an update from Kevin Criez on the team's progress so far, along with some photos of the team at work.

Best Regards, Anna Ehnmark, TAG

Mobile Application Software Mark Moeller of QualneticsJoin us on February 19 for TAG's luncheon - Opportunities in Mobile Applications Software!

Mobile devices have become one of the primary ways people consume content and interact on the Internet.  The power and capabilities of these devices are ground breaking.  Attention to the creation of software for these devices is at record levels.  Businesses must have a strategy to support customers with these devices. With many competing platforms, what are some of the technical considerations that need to be made when entering this space? Join us on February 19 to hear software industry veteran and local entrepreneur Mark Moeller of Qualnetics Corporation answer this question and more.

Mark Moeller of QualneticsMark Moeller is the CEO and Principal Architect of Qualnetics Corporation, a local embedded systems software company. Mark grew up in Bellingham, and joined Microsoft shortly after graduating from Sehome High School.  There he worked on on Microsoft's early embedded OS, "Works".  He went on to help build Excel and Access, then co-founded Microsoft's Automotive Group. He then returned to Bellingham and founded AutoPCWare, which would become Qualnetics. Mark and his family live in Everson on their farm, Misty Meadows Farm, which produces certified organic poultry, eggs, and Christmas Trees.

This meeting is also TAG's annual membership meeting. Before the speaker program starts our members will elect the 2010 TAG Board of Directors. If you have questions about your membership status or want to sign up as a member, follow the link or contact Anna Ehnmark at 647-4220.

TAG seeking to link technology businesses with research and technical expertise at Whatcom County’s university and collegesLinking Whatcom tech business to R&D resources

TAG is leading a project funded by the Port of Bellingham that seeks to promote university-industry partnerships and opportunities for companies to access technical expertise, research and development resources at Western Washington University, our local colleges and private R&D resources.

Our goal is to enable companies to leverage their research and development funding by gaining access to faculty expertise and specialized equipment. It also will benefit the schools by encouraging faculty and students to engage in commercially relevant research, developing new technologies and enhancing the local technology labor pool.

TAG has launched a survey targeted to technology-based companies in Whatcom County to learn more about companies’ products and technical capabilities and needs for research and development expertise and other R&D resources. If you are interested in this project please contact Anna Ehnmark at TAG at 360-647-4220.

Refresh Bellingham: The Fundamentals of Internet Architecture

Time and place: Wednesday, February 17th 6pm at Extremes Sports Grill, with guest speaker Adrian Pike.

Refresh Bellingham is proud to host Adrian Pike. Adrian will be talking about the fundamentals of internet architecture. Front-end designers and developers have always maintained (at best) an uneasy truce with the servers and infrastructure that allow them to display their work to an appreciative world. For many, anything beyond the FTP window is black magic. Find out how the heck DNS really works and what exactly you're paying GoDaddy for, why servers are different from each other and what to look for, and why your website is slow and how to make it faster.
